Trager® and music
A free sound can only come from a free mind and body
During my stay in London I discovered a new way of listening to my body that has significantly influenced my musical process, helping me to be more comfortable and connected with myself, the instrument and the audience. Curiosity led me to complete training until I graduated in 2010 as a Trager® Practitioner: a method of body awareness and relaxation that seeks personal well-being through free and effortless movement.
Exploring movement in a creative way and using the body’s own weight, the body-mind is re-educated so that comfortable movements are integrated into daily life thanks to pleasant sensations. It is a learning process of the proprioceptive system that allows the muscles to act in a coordinated way, working only the necessary ones in their proper measure. The goal is to make efficient use of the body using precise muscle tone to improve its performance.
When connected and in harmony, music flows
In addition to providing a deep psychophysical relaxation, Trager favors the union between this sensation and the act of going on stage. From my performing experience, teaching and professional practice of Trager, I can contribute valuable resources to other musicians who seek greater efficiency in their performances: ease and freedom of movement, improvement of coordination and posture, increased breathing capacity, better use of the study and more satisfactory performances without fatigue or stress.
On the other hand, regular practice of Trager is an effective tool for the prevention of muscular exhaustion, fatigue and restricted movement. When excessive tension has already taken over the body, the gentle and respectful manner of this method is ideal for painlessly unlocking it. The versatility of Trager allows it to adapt to the needs of each person and instrument, including the voice, in order to fully enjoy the music.
